I have now had a couple of Philly Cheesesteaks (yes, capitalized!) and wish I could have about a hundred more. This city is really a great place to visit. So many different opportunities (like seeing the pigs on the pallet going down the street on the front of a forklift in Chinatown) are within a walk which is usually easy. This town is so filled with history – history which goes back at least 300 years – you find it around most every corner. The food is good, the sights are astounding, and every potter I have met has been made to feel quite welcome. Three cheers to Philadelphia!
After a LONG stretch on the road, our crew made it to the first of our planned NCECA events – Wood and Salt firing at Appel Farm with Bruce Dehnert. Our road trip – or at least the first half – was awesome and relatively uneventful but still full of memories which I will post a bit later. The wood fire group gathered and finished glazing as we were getting to know each other. The group became a great crew and we loaded and fired the kiln like champions. Wednesday we unload and even though we hit some bumps I expect we will be pleasantly surprised when we unbrick the doors. The folks at Appel Farm are wonderful and the facility is very nice – including the Twilight Zone bunkhouse which is not as bad as it sounds just a great new experience!
